Plot summary
Sharpay Evans dances at the Lava Springs Country Club, where Jerry Taylor notices her dog Boi and offers the animal a part in his Broadway show. She talks her father Vance into letting her try her luck in New York City alone, on one condition: she must be in a show within a month or return home and work at the club. Her penthouse bars dogs, and she will not give Boi up. On the street she meets Peyton Leverett, a filmmaker who wants her for his project and lets her stay in his studio apartment. At the theater she learns the part Jerry had in mind belongs to Boi. Auditioning him puts her level with the child star Roger Elliston and his spaniel Countess, and she meets Amber Lee Adams, the leading lady she admires.
