Plot summary
Andrea Marr is eighteen, a straight-A senior at a high school in rural Washington, and she has led a sheltered life with two close friends, bookish Darcy and Cybil, who plays in a band with classmates Richard and Greg. Unsure of herself and confused by her own sexuality, Andrea has trouble seeing herself as a woman. When Brown University accepts her, she realizes how few experiences she has had, so she goes with Rebecca, a classmate who follows bands, to hear Cybil play. There she meets Todd Sparrow, the singer of a local group called The Color Green, and becomes enamored of him. She begins to spend her time in the rock scene he belongs to, and her friends and her schoolwork start to slip.
