Biography

Anita Gillette is an American actress and singer, born in Baltimore and raised in Rossville, Maryland. She studied at the Peabody Conservatory before making her Broadway debut in Gypsy in 1959. Her Broadway credits include Carnival!, Guys and Dolls, Cabaret, They're Playing Our Song, and Brighton Beach Memoirs. In 1978 she was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play for Chapter Two. On television, she first appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1963 and later became a familiar guest on game shows like What's My Line?, Match Game, and Pyramid. She transitioned to film with roles such as Mona in Moonstruck (1987), often playing mothers to prominent actors in Boys on the Side (1995), Larger Than Life (1996), She's the One (1996), and The Guru (2002). Later credits include Shall We Dance? (2004), The War at Home, CSI, and 30 Rock.
