Plot summary
Conor Lalor is fifteen and lives in South Dublin in 1985. His parents, Robert and Penny, argue, and money is short, so they move him out of his fee-paying school and into Synge Street, where Brother Baxter is principal and the bully Barry is waiting. Conor meets Darren, who takes charge as manager when Conor tells him they need a band. When Conor meets Raphina, a girl across the street who says she is a model, he asks her to appear in a music video for the band. Darren brings in Eamon, who plays most instruments and settles on bass; Ngig joins on keyboards, and Larry and Garry complete the group. They call themselves Sing Street, and Conor's older brother Brendan urges him to write original songs instead of covers.
