Plot summary
Sandra Abbott has been married to Mike for thirty-five years, a marriage she chose for stability and security. She learns he is involved with her friend Pamela, and she leaves for London, where Bif, the older sister she has long been distant from, lives on a council estate. A dinner in an Asian restaurant becomes a confrontation with its owner, and the police take Sandra away; she stays overnight. In the morning Mike telephones to say he is moving in with Pamela. Sandra, who once ballroom danced, lets Bif bring her to a community dance class, where she meets Charlie, Jackie and Ted.
