Plot summary
Stephen Ward is an English osteopath who keeps a wide circle of contacts and hosts parties. He takes a liking to Christine Keeler, a young exotic dancer, and offers her a place in his home, where he is her friend and mentor. His gatherings bring Christine and her friend Mandy Rice-Davies into the company of men from the Conservative Party, and both women begin dating them.

- Scandal began as a proposed three-part BBC mini-series on the Profumo affair: the BBC agreed to fund scripts for two 90-minute episodes before internal memos forbidding their production dried up support, and Channel 4 turned the project down on grounds of taste.
- Producer Stephen Woolley arranged discreet meetings between Mandy Rice-Davies and American actress Bridget Fonda to help Fonda with her portrayal.
- Joanne Whalley recreated Christine Keeler's 1963 pose with photographer Lewis Morley for Scandal's theatrical release poster; Keeler had straddled a chair with only its back as cover, and the image became one of the most imitated photographs ever published.
- Scandal filmed Ward's house at Bathurst Mews in Bayswater, London, although the real house was at Wimpole Mews in Marylebone, and used the exterior of 29 Francis Street, Victoria, SW1 as the police station.
