Plot summary
Max lives in 1930s Berlin, where his homosexuality has set him apart from his wealthy family. He shares an apartment with his boyfriend Rudy, who resents it when Max brings home a man from the Sturmabteilung. The evening falls on the Night of the Long Knives, when Adolf Hitler orders the SA leadership assassinated; SS men discover the visitor and kill him in the apartment. Max and Rudy flee Berlin. Max's Uncle Freddie arranges fresh papers for him, but Max will not abandon Rudy, and the Gestapo seizes them both and puts them on a train to Dachau. There Max denies being gay to the guards.
