Plot summary
Matty Dean is new to New York City, and Greenwich Village is where he lands. He takes up with La Miranda, a crossdressing sex worker, and her circle, who bring him along to the Stonewall Inn. A police raid there ends with the pair of them arrested, and Bostonia, who looks after the queens at the bar and keeps her involvement with Vinnie, the man who runs Stonewall, quiet, posts their bail. At La Miranda's apartment a draft notice arrives for her. Matty sits in on a Mattachine Society meeting, where Burt and Ethan are among those planning a picket in Philadelphia.

- Stonewall is a work of fiction, but director Nigel Finch made the unusual choice of including documentary-style interview footage with several people who had been at the Stonewall Inn during the uprising.
- British director Nigel Finch died of AIDS shortly after filming on Stonewall ended, and the film was his last.
- Finch also interspersed lip-synch numbers performed by the actors throughout the film, where they function as something of a Greek chorus.
