Plot summary
Bartleby and his dog Budderball spend the summer on the farm of Marvin, Bartleby's grandfather. On his twelfth birthday, Bartleby receives the first issue of a comic book about Captain Canine, a soldier from the planet Inspiron who carried the Five Power Rings to Earth to keep them from the warlord Drex. While Bartleby celebrates with his friends, the dogs come upon the Rings in a barn. Rosebud gains super speed, Mudbud turns invisible, Budderball has super strength, B-Dawg can stretch, and Buddha moves objects with his mind. On Earth, Captain Canine lives in the shape of a dog and searches for the Rings with his friend Jack, while Drex also sets out after them.
