Steven Yeun
Biography
Steven Yeun is an American actor who was born in Seoul and grew up in Canada and Michigan. After studying improv and sketch comedy in Chicago, he moved to Los Angeles and broke out as Glenn Rhee on The Walking Dead, a role he played from 2010 to 2016. After leaving the show he appeared in Bong Joon-ho's Okja (2017) and Boots Riley's Sorry to Bother You (2018), and his role in Lee Chang-dong's Burning (2018) brought him best supporting actor awards from several critics' groups. He received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for Minari (2020), becoming the first East Asian American nominated in that category. Yeun later starred in The Humans (2021) and Nope (2022). For the Netflix series Beef (2023), which he executive produced and starred in, he won Primetime Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe. He has voiced characters in animated series including Voltron: Legendary Defender and Invincible.

Early training
Soon after finishing school, Yeun became a member of Stir Friday Night, an Asian American sketch comedy group in Chicago. Danny Pudi, who acted in Community, is among the group's other alumni.
Getting ready for a role
Yeun took on both acting and executive producing duties for Lee Isaac Chung's A24 immigrant drama Minari in 2020. The story follows a Korean immigrant family turning to farming in Arkansas, and Yeun drew on his own immigrant experience for the role.
