Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Nope (2022)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Nope was the first horror film in history shot in 65mm IMAX film, with cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema using Kodak stock and two cameras for night scenes: one infrared, one 70mm.
- Jordan Peele cited the Angels of Neon Genesis Evangelion, especially Sahaquiel the 10th Angel, as the principal inspiration for the film's monster, drawn to its "hyper minimalism" and "biomechanical design flair."
- Jesse Plemons turned down a role in Nope to star in Killers of the Flower Moon, while Peele wrote the OJ Haywood part with Daniel Kaluuya in mind; Kaluuya was paid $4 million.
- The Burbank Fry's Electronics store where Nope filmed had closed with all remaining Fry's locations weeks earlier, so the store was rebuilt in its operating state; co-founder Randy Fry and his wife had cameos.
- Caltech professor John O. Dabiri helped design Jean Jacket's final form, inspired by Neon Genesis Evangelion and sea creatures like jellyfish and squid, with electric-field ability taken from electric eels and ghost knifefish.
- Sound designer Johnnie Burn used silence as one of the main sounds for Jean Jacket, stripping back dialogue, wind and cricket chirps, and engineered wind soundscapes with faint screams to suggest the creature's movement.
SPOILER
Brandon Perea persuaded Peele and Universal executives to spare his character Angel Torres in the climax, mainly out of interest in a possible sequel.- A real-world version of the film's Jupiter's Claim theme park opened permanently at Universal Studios Hollywood's Studio Tour on July 22, 2022, the first Studio Tour attraction to open the same day as the film it replicates.
