Plot summary
Three generations of the Blake family come together for Thanksgiving at the new Manhattan apartment of Brigid, who lives in Chinatown with her partner Richard. Her father, Erik, immediately dislikes the run-down building, which sits in a flood risk zone close to Ground Zero, and memories of September 11 weigh on him. His wife, Deirdre, has arthritis and disapproves that Brigid and Richard are not married; Brigid resents that her parents have not helped her afford a better life and is privately wounded that her composing career has not taken off. Aimee, the other daughter, has a chronic illness and has recently lost her job and her longtime girlfriend. Richard, who has fought depression, waits on a trust fund he cannot touch until he turns 40. Erik's mother, Momo, is senile.
