Plot summary
Okja is a genetically modified super pig, one of twenty-six that the Mirando Corporation sent to farmers around the world, and she lives in the South Korean mountains with Mija, a teenage girl, and Mija's grandfather. The two are close, and Okja once saves Mija from falling off a cliff. Lucy Mirando, the company's chief executive, said the best of the animals would be crowned after about ten years. The zoologist Johnny Wilcox arrives to declare Okja the winner and to announce that she is being taken to New York. Mija's grandfather gives her a solid gold pig figurine that he saved up to replace Okja. Mija travels to Seoul, sees Okja loaded onto a truck, and chases it.

- At Okja's premiere at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival, the film drew boos mixed with applause twice: once when the Netflix logo appeared, and again when a technical glitch showed it in the wrong aspect ratio for seven minutes. The festival later apologized to the filmmakers, and the screening ended in a four-minute standing ovation.
- To prepare for the film's slaughterhouse sequence, director Bong Joon Ho visited a Colorado slaughterhouse, an experience that turned him and producer Dooho Choi into temporary vegans.
