Plot summary
Nothing human remains on Earth when a weather buoy wakes in the ocean and makes contact with a satellite passing above, one left in orbit to greet whatever life finds the planet. Calling itself a life form, the buoy searches the satellite's files for a sense of what human life was like. It finds the social media channel of Deja, an influencer, with videos of her life and her husband, Liam. Using Deja as a model, the buoy becomes Me and talks the satellite into online friendship, giving him the name Iam. When Iam's answer to a video of laughing babies comes out less than human, he builds her a meme instead. Me proposes they move in together, recreating Deja's apartment with avatars based on Deja and Liam, and has Iam act out Deja's date night videos again and again.
