He has been married to Meredith Adkins since 2002. They have two children. He was previously married to Meredith Fuller.

About the name
Adkins used the professional name Sinbad, which he picked because he admired Sinbad the Sailor, hoping it would help him stand out in the entertainment industry.
First role
Sinbad started out in stand-up comedy on Star Search. He beat Dennis Miller in his round, reached the finals, and then lost to John Kassir.
A first
In 1990, Sinbad's first HBO stand-up comedy special, Sinbad: Brain Damaged, was taped at Morehouse College, which is located in Atlanta, Georgia.
Behind the camera
By 1995, Sinbad had started a company that he called "David & Goliath Productions", and the company was located in Studio City.
