Plot summary
Isaiah Turner lives with his family in Oklahoma territory as the railroads push west. His half-Cherokee father refuses to sell the family's land and is murdered. Cyrus Bloomington, a wealthy land-grabber, kills Isaiah's mother; Isaiah escapes and is taken in by Reverend Peel and his wife. Fourteen years later, Isaiah is clumsy but determined, and a poster advertising Bloomington's campaign for governor sends him after the man. He has a talent for getting lost. On the road he rescues a woman from outlaws and talks their gang into carrying him to Pinedale by claiming to be a friend of their leader planning a bank robbery.
