Shane West
Biography
Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Shane West is an actor who also sings and writes songs. He made his television debut in 1995 on the CBS drama Picket Fences, then played Eli Sammler on ABC's Once and Again for three seasons. His first feature was Liberty Heights (1999). He followed with the teen comedy Whatever It Takes (2000), and he also appeared in Get Over It (2001). He starred as Landon Carter in A Walk to Remember (2002), winning a Teen Choice Award for his chemistry with Mandy Moore. He appeared in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003) and played Ray Barnett on ER, and critics praised his turn as Darby Crash in What We Do Is Secret. His later television work included Nikita as Michael Bishop and Salem as John Alden, and he starred in Here Alone (2016). He has also performed with the punk bands the Germs and Jonny Was and helped form the Twilight Creeps.

Getting ready for a role
Between seasons of ER, West helped finance and shoot the independent film What We Do Is Secret. In it he plays Darby Crash, a member of the Germs, a 1970s punk band.
Beyond film
West fronted the punk rock band Jonny Was for "seven or eight years." Under the name "West, Gould, and Fitzgerald," the group appeared on the A Walk to Remember soundtrack.
About the name
West was embarrassed by his feminine first name, so he used his middle name Bruce. When he began acting in high school, he changed his professional name to Shane West.
A role that slipped away
West left ER after the thirteenth season when he won a role in Supreme Courtships, but the Fox Network did not pick up the series.
Beyond film
West reunited with former Jonny Was bandmates in 2015 to form the Twilight Creeps, who released their debut album the following year.
