Plot summary

Society has been decimated by an infection, and Ann gets by on her own in the woods, taking what food she can find. She stays away from the abandoned houses, since the infected gather there, and she keeps a crank radio whose emergency message comes in French, a language she does not speak, along with other reminders of her husband Jason and their infant daughter. On her way back from a house nearby with food, she finds Chris, who is hurt, and his teenage stepdaughter Olivia. Ann helps the pair, nursing Chris back to health, though trusting them does not come easily. A storm arrives just as the two are about to leave, and Ann lets them stay a while longer.
