Plot summary
The cabin on an isolated island stands empty except for the apparition of a man who cannot leave it and cannot be seen or heard by the living. A woman who spent summers there as a child arrives with her bags and groceries, lights a lantern and unpacks, and only faintly senses that she is not alone. Mr. Browman, who brings supplies by boat, tells her the place is creepy and that he would be scared to stay there; she insists she will be fine. Days later a boat brings her boyfriend, who has come to the island unannounced. She shows him around and tells him about her childhood summers there.
