Plot summary
Alice Dodgeson is a doctor still shaken by her time working through the COVID-19 pandemic, and harassed by her superior. She and her husband, the architect Tom Levin, take a weekend getaway to San Diego, renting a mid-century modern house built by Frederick Banner. The man who rents it to them is named Eldridge. A bird crashes into the window, doors open by themselves, and a shadowy figure watches the couple. A delivery driver tells Tom that Eldridge unsettles him. Alice has an interview lined up at a hospital. Tom looks into the history of the house and of its builder.
