Cecilia Parker

Biography

Cecilia Parker, a Canadian-American film actress, was born in Fort William, Ontario, and began her screen career as an extra and in bit parts before a screen test led to her first role, opposite George O'Brien in The Rainbow Trail (1932). She went on to appear in westerns and serials including The Lost Jungle (1934), and played Greta Garbo's sister in The Painted Veil (1934), after which Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer signed her to a long-term contract. Parker became best known as Marian Hardy, Andy Hardy's sister, in the popular Andy Hardy series. She originated the part in A Family Affair (1937), appeared as Marian in twelve of the sixteen Hardy films, and retired from acting after Andy Hardy's Double Life (1942). She briefly returned for Andy Hardy Comes Home (1958), and her final screen appearance was in a 1984 television adaptation of Pudd'nhead Wilson for American Playhouse. She died in 1993.
