Biography

Richard Jordan was an American actor who began on the New York stage and became a longtime actor with the New York Shakespeare Festival, appearing in Off Broadway and Broadway productions. Born in New York City, he studied at Harvard and in Paris at the Universite du Theatre des Nations before taking Broadway roles in Take Her, She's Mine and Generation. His movie work included Lawman (1971), Valdez Is Coming (1971), The Friends of Eddie Coyle (1973), The Yakuza (1974), Rooster Cogburn (1975), Logan's Run (1976), Interiors (1978), Raise the Titanic (1980), Dune (1984), The Mean Season (1985), The Secret of My Success (1987), Romero (1989), The Hunt for Red October (1990), and Gettysburg (1993), in which he played Brig. Gen. Lewis Armistead. He won a Golden Globe for Captains and the Kings and an Obie for A Private View, and he directed stage productions including Macbeth and Largo Desolato. He died in 1993.
