Andrew Prine
Biography
Andrew Prine was an American actor who worked from the 1950s into the 2010s in more than 180 film and television productions and was especially known for Westerns. He was born in Jennings, Florida and grew up in a farming community, then attended the University of Miami, where he held a theater scholarship, before leaving for New York, joining the Actors Studio and making his professional debut in a 1957 episode of United States Steel Hour. At 22 he took the lead in the Broadway staging of Look Homeward, Angel. From 1962 to 1963 he starred with Earl Holliman in the NBC series Wide Country, and he later appeared in films such as The Miracle Worker (1962), The Devil's Brigade (1968), Chisum (1970), Simon, King of the Witches (1971) and Amityville II: The Possession (1982). In 2001 he received the Golden Boot Award for his work in Westerns.

A role that slipped away
In 1958, Prine replaced Anthony Perkins in the Broadway production of Look Homeward, Angel, adapted by Ketti Frings from Thomas Wolfe's work. The play ran for 564 performances and closed on April 4, 1959.
Early training
Prine won a theater scholarship to the University of Miami, then left the school and went to New York to chase acting work, joining the Actors Studio.
A change of course
Prine realized that stage and screen work paid very differently, so he left Broadway to pursue acting in films, where the pay difference was greater.
