Plot summary
A group of drunken cowboys from Sabbath, in the employ of cattle baron Vincent Bronson, ride through the town of Bannock and celebrate by shooting the place up. A stray bullet kills an old man. The cowboys go home to Sabbath without knowing that anyone died. Bannock's marshal, Jered Maddox, follows them with warrants charging all of them with murder. Sabbath's own marshal, Cotton Ryan, tells him that Bronson owns the town and that nobody will be handed over. Bronson regrets the death and offers money to the victim's family and to Bannock rather than a trial. Small ranchers like Vern Adams cannot leave their holdings for a long trial far away, and Maddox will not compromise on the law.
