Plot summary
For years Malcolm Anderson has covered the worst crimes in Miami for a newspaper, and the work has worn him down. He tells Christine, his girlfriend, that the two of them will leave the city behind. Then the murders begin, and the killer picks up the phone. He calls the reporter, says that he will kill again, and treats him as the man who will speak for him. The calls and the clues pull Malcolm further into a story he is meant only to write about, and the line between reporting on the case and being part of it begins to blur.
