Eve works as an interior decorator and Arthur as a corporate attorney. They have three adult daughters. Renata, the eldest, is a poet; her husband Frederick also writes and feels overshadowed by her success. Joey, the middle sister, has not settled on a career and is in a relationship with Mike. She feels her mother prefers Renata, and Renata in turn dislikes their father's worry about Joey's lack of direction. Flyn, the youngest, works as an actress and is away filming much of the time.
