Mia Farrow
Biography
Mia Farrow is an American actress who was born in Los Angeles and raised in Beverly Hills. She began working as a fashion model and then played a replacement part in a New York production of The Importance of Being Earnest. After her first credited film appearance in Guns at Batasi (1964), she became a star on the soap opera Peyton Place as Allison MacKenzie. Her breakthrough came as Rosemary in Roman Polanski's Rosemary's Baby (1968), which brought BAFTA and Golden Globe nominations and a Golden Globe for New Star of the Year. She went on to films including The Great Gatsby (1974), Death on the Nile (1978), and Woody Allen's A Midsummer Night's Sex Comedy (1982), Broadway Danny Rose (1984), The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985), Hannah and Her Sisters (1986), and Alice (1990). Later credits include The Omen (2006), Be Kind Rewind (2008), and Dark Horse (2011), plus television work and a Tony-nominated Broadway return in The Roommate.

A first
Farrow became the first American actress in the Royal Shakespeare Company. In 1971 she played Joan of Arc in its production of Jeanne d'Arc au bûcher at the Royal Albert Hall.
A role that slipped away
Farrow wanted Hal Wallis, the producer, to swap out Hathaway. When Wallis said no, Farrow left the part, and Kim Darby ended up with it.
A role that slipped away
Farrow tried out for the part of Liesl von Trapp in The Sound of Music (1965), but the role went to someone else. Her screen test survived and can be seen on the film's Fortieth Anniversary Edition DVD.
Big break
Farrow had her first leading film role in the psychological horror film Rosemary's Baby, released in 1968, which was a critical and commercial success.
Getting ready for a role
For Broadway Danny Rose, Farrow gained weight and adopted a thick Italian-American accent, a transformation that Allen biographer John Bailey called 'unrecognizable'.
