Biography

Mary Black is a Canadian actress who has worked in theater, film, and television. Born on October 26, 1935, she left acting in 1970 and returned to it after moving from Toronto to Vancouver in 1995. Work came in with varied roles, and she played a nun, a judge, a vampire, a cult leader, and a ruler from a distant planet in Man of Steel (2013). She has appeared alongside Russell Crowe, Helen Mirren, Colin Firth, Nicholas Cage, Scott Bakula, William H. Macy, Renee Zellwigger, and Christopher Lloyd. Her directors have included Bruce Beresford, Neil LaBute, and Jason Reitman, along with Jake Snyder and Jerry Ciccoritti. Beyond film and television, she has kept up her first love, the theater, performing in new works and classics, including staged Shakespeare readings with the Savage God Company.
