Sonja Bennett
Biography
Sonja Bennett, a Canadian actress and screenwriter, was born in Vancouver. Her first feature role came in Punch (2002), a film written and directed by her father, Guy Bennett, and it earned her a Vancouver Film Critics Circle best actress award. She went on to appear in Fido (2006), Young People Fucking (2007), for which she received another Vancouver Film Critics Circle supporting prize, and Donovan's Echo (2011). On television she starred in Godiva's from 2005 to 2006 and had recurring parts on Cold Squad, Battlestar Galactica, Eureka and Mistresses, along with guest spots on Supernatural, Psych and Stargate Atlantis. Bennett wrote her first screenplay for Preggoland (2014), also starring in it, and later wrote for the series Kim's Convenience.

Early training
Bennett's first experience writing for herself came at Studio 58, where a course required students to write and perform a solo show, which she called foundational to her later screenwriting.
A change of course
After Preggoland came out, Bennett chose television writing over chasing the film's profile in Los Angeles, a deliberate shift in her career ambitions, and began writing for Kim's Convenience after Vancouver writer Robert Chomiak encouraged the move.
