Plot summary
On Antonio Island, the town prepares to honor its founding fathers, unaware of a deadly secret in its past. Nick Castle and Spooner are out on the water and accidentally disturb a bag lying on the seabed. Nick's former girlfriend Elizabeth Williams returns after six months. Machen shows her a pocket watch washed up on the beach and warns that touching it will change things. The watch starts ticking. Objects move, power fails, and the windows in Nick's truck shatter. A weatherman reports a large fog bank approaching. On the water, Nick's boat sits in the fog, and an old clipper ship appears beside it. Elizabeth dreams about the ship and sees the word 'Dane' appear on her computer before Nick brings her inside.
