Plot summary
Violinist Ryan Harrison performs a concert and afterward attends a party, where he is introduced to Hibbing Goodhue, the millionaire sponsoring his performances, to Goodhue's wife Lauren, and to Cass Lake. The following evening, a message from Lauren in his car draws him to the Goodhue mansion, and there he runs into Sean Laughrea, who has just murdered Goodhue with help from someone else. Harrison sees that Sean has only one eye, one arm and one leg, and he catches talk of an operation called Hylander before he is knocked unconscious. He comes to under arrest, and a conviction for the killing follows. After an accident during his transfer to prison, Harrison gets away, and Lieutenant Fergus Falls takes command of the manhunt.
