Plot summary
Sophie talks her friends Ben, Jeni, and David into a backpacking vacation through the Irish countryside, and their driver, Ian, leaves the four of them at a monolith. Sophie, who studies history, notices the symbol carved into it. In a village bar they meet Hamish, an elderly local who says the place once grew rich on gold from a nearby cavern and faded after the gold ran out. Wary of Hamish and his grumpy son Sean, the friends still accept a lift to a cottage at the edge of the woods. That night Jeni spots a figure outside and wakes the others, and the cottage door is locked.
