Martin Milner
Biography
Martin Milner was an American actor who became best known for two long-running television roles. Born in Detroit, he grew up partly in Seattle and later settled with his family in Los Angeles, where he broke into films as a teenager with a part in Life with Father (1947) opposite William Powell. He studied theater at the University of Southern California for a year before leaving to act, and he worked steadily in war films and dramas of the 1950s, among them Sands of Iwo Jima (1949), Gunfight at the O.K. Corral (1957), Sweet Smell of Success (1957), and Compulsion (1959). On television he starred as Tod Stiles in Route 66 from 1960 to 1964 and as Officer Pete Malloy in Adam-12 from 1968 to 1975. Later credits included The Swiss Family Robinson and guest spots on MacGyver and Murder, She Wrote.

Early training
Milner studied theater at the University of Southern California. In the fall of 1950, after a year there, he left school to focus on acting.
Beyond film
In 1967, Milner took the stage on Broadway just one time, in a comedy called The Ninety Day Mistress that did not run long.
A change of course
In 1952 Milner started a two-year Army term. At Fort Ord, in Special Services, he directed training films and, for a touring unit that entertained soldiers, served as master of ceremonies and performed in skits.
A change of course
Milner stepped away from acting and later co-hosted Let's Talk Hook-Up, a radio program about fishing, on XETRA AM 690, a sports station serving the San Diego area.
