Jim Haynie

Biography

Jim Haynie was an American actor who worked largely in supporting roles on television and in film. Born in Falls Church, Virginia, he studied dramatic art at UC Davis and then performed at the Magic Theatre in San Francisco. His first film work came in 1978, a supporting part in Honky Tonk Nights, and over the following decades he took part in roughly 100 film and television productions. His film credits included the school principal in Pretty in Pink (1986), Jake McDermott in Staying Together (1989), Captain Malone in I Come in Peace (1990), Sheriff Ira Stevens in Sleepwalkers (1992), and the husband of Meryl Streep's character in The Bridges of Madison County (1995), as well as a role in The Peacemaker (1997). On television, he portrayed Garrett Gordon in seven episodes of Dallas from 1978 to 1979 and an investigating detective in the 1989 miniseries I Know My First Name Is Steven. He died in 2021.
