Jackie Coogan
Biography
Jackie Coogan was an American actor and comedian whose career began in silent movies when he was a child. Born in Los Angeles in 1914, he performed in vaudeville and film as an infant. Charlie Chaplin discovered him at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles while he was doing the shimmy, then cast him in A Day's Pleasure (1919) and in the title role of The Kid (1921), which made him one of Hollywood's first child stars. He played the title role in Oliver Twist (1922) and later took character parts and television work. In Girl Happy (1965), an Elvis Presley comedy, he played a police officer. He gained renewed fame as Uncle Fester in the 1960s series The Addams Family, voiced the character in an animated series from 1973 to 1975, and reprised Uncle Fester for the 1977 television movie Halloween with the New Addams Family.

A change of course
In December 1943 Coogan's unit was sent to India. On March 5, 1944 he flew British troops called the Chindits, landing them at night in a jungle clearing 100 mi behind Japanese lines during the Burma Campaign.

Coogan's career started when he was still an infant, appearing in vaudeville and film. In the 1917 film Skinner's Baby, he had the title role, which went uncredited.
