Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- David Levy, creator of the 1960s TV series, and Barbara Colyton pitched a revival that all three networks rejected before producer Charles Fries bought it for NBC. A week and a half before shooting began, they learned elements developed for the TV series belonged to Filmways, not them.
- Blossom Rock, the original Grandmama, was too ill to reprise her role in the TV movie; she died in January 1978, nearly three months after it aired, and Jane Rose took the part.
- Margaret Hamilton, who had played Mother Frump in the original series, declined to appear in the film, so her role was played by Elvia Allman.
- The film was shot in 12 days and often had to work around John Astin's schedule because he was also shooting Operation Petticoat at the time.
- Eleven years after the 1960s sitcom ended, the film was the only production to reunite most of the original cast, among them John Astin, Carolyn Jones, Jackie Coogan and Ted Cassidy, in color, on videotape.
