Biography
Golshifteh Farahani is an Iranian actress who began performing as a teenager. Born in Tehran, she studied piano from age five and at 14 was cast as the lead in The Pear Tree (1998), winning Best Actress at the Fajr International Film Festival. She gained recognition with Half Moon (2006), which won the Golden Shell at San Sebastián, and M for Mother (2006), which earned her a Roshd award and represented Iran at the Academy Awards. She had a supporting part in Body of Lies (2008), an American film. Later credits include About Elly (2009), The Patience Stone (2012), for which she won Best Actress at Gijón and a César nomination, Two Friends (2015), Paterson (2016), Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017), Girls of the Sun (2018), Extraction (2020) and Extraction 2 (2023). She also appeared in the series Invasion from 2021 and played Anna Karenina on stage in 2016.
