Plot summary
Dell Scott, on parole, needs signatures proving he is looking for work or he faces a violation. He walks into a New York penthouse where Phillip Lacasse, a wealthy quadriplegic, is interviewing candidates for a caregiver with his assistant, Yvonne Pendleton. Dell interrupts to demand a signature, and Phillip, over Yvonne's objections, offers him the job; Dell turns it down. He visits his ex-wife Latrice and their son Anthony, who want nothing to do with him, then takes the position. Yvonne sets a three strikes rule, and the untrained Dell, guided by Phillip's physical therapist Maggie, stumbles through his first days.

- The Upside was pulled from The Weinstein Company's release schedule in January 2018 following the Harvey Weinstein sexual abuse allegations and moved to an unspecified 2018 date.
