Plot summary
Marilyn works as a receptionist at a computer repair company in Chicago, where her marriage to Harvey is falling apart. Her belly dance class is the one thing that pleases her, and Mona, who keeps her in-laws' mini market, shares that interest. Mona is married to Mourad, who avoids confronting his mother, a woman who blames Mona for having no child after five years. Marilyn loses her job and comes home to find Harvey with another woman, so she sets out alone for an audition with a dance company in Santa Fe. Mona leaves Chicago in a hurry the day her mother-in-law is found dead. At a highway rest stop the two meet and decide to travel on together, dancing for money at bars and restaurants.
