Gerard McSorley
Biography
Gerard McSorley is an Irish actor who spent his early career in theater, notably at the Abbey Theatre in Dublin, before moving into television and film. Born in Omagh, County Tyrone, he was taught by Seamus Heaney while studying at Queen's University, Belfast. He played Michael Evans in the first West End and Broadway runs of Brian Friel's Dancing at Lughnasa in the early 1990s, after which more screen roles came his way. His films include The Constant Gardener (2005) and Robin Hood (2010), which Ridley Scott directed and which starred Russell Crowe. His lead performance in the television drama Omagh, about the bombing's effect on the town, was among his most celebrated, and he played Father Todd Unctious in a Christmas special of the sitcom Father Ted. He also appeared in Braveheart and In the Name of the Father, and later took the part of Robert Aske in The Tudors.
