Plot summary

In 1936, the Wollners, Germans who settled in rural West Virginia, need money and agree to host a visiting scholar, Richard Wirth. Wirth is a Nazi occultist, and the Viking runestone he seeks lies buried on their land. The family traps him in the basement and binds him with a ritual that demands human sacrifices. Through the decades they keep him weak. In 2007, Evan Marshall works as a paramedic. His older brother Victor vanished years earlier on a camping trip. One night Victor appears at Evan's house, dirty and tattered, and says he escaped his captors. Victor asks Evan to load their rifles and come with him back to the farm.
