Plot summary
Agnes Browne is raising seven children, aged two to fourteen, in 1967 Dublin. When her husband dies unexpectedly, grief is followed by money trouble. To keep the household going she borrows from a loan shark named Mr. Billy. She earns what she can selling fruit and vegetables at the open-air market on Moore Street, where her best friend Marion Monks offers encouragement. Agnes dreams of escaping her troubles, if only briefly, at an upcoming concert. A first date with a French baker, Pierre, comes her way, and her children pool their money to buy her a new dress to wear.
