Plot summary
Veronica Guerin covers crime for the Sunday Independent in Ireland. She sees how far the illegal drug trade has spread into Dublin's working-class areas and into the lives of children, and she decides to name the people running it. Her reporting begins with young addicts she meets on the streets and in the housing estates. To learn more, she builds a relationship with John Traynor, a trafficker who passes her information about the criminal underworld.

The film was the second inspired by the life of the Irish journalist Veronica Guerin, following When the Sky Falls in 2000; her investigation into the drug trade in Dublin led to her murder in 1996, at the age of 37.SPOILER
The film's epilogue states that within a week of Veronica Guerin's death, in an emergency session of the Parliament, the Government altered the Constitution of the Republic of Ireland to allow the High Court to freeze the assets of suspected drug barons.- Colin Farrell makes an appearance in the film as a heavily tattooed young man whom Guerin briefly engages in conversation about a football match.
- Cate Blanchett was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama but lost to Charlize Theron in Monster, and lost the Empire Award for Best Actress to Uma Thurman in Kill Bill, Vol. 1.
