Brid Brennan

Brid Brennan is an Irish actress whose career spans film, television, and theater. Born in Belfast in 1955, she began acting in Dublin and appeared at the Gate, Abbey, and Gaiety theaters, as well as touring community centers with Moving Theatre. She was the original Agnes in Brian Friel's Dancing at Lughnasa, and in 1992 she received a Tony Award as best featured actress in a play for that performance. She later reprised Agnes in the 1998 film Dancing at Lughnasa, starring alongside Meryl Streep, and won an Irish Film and Television Award in the best actress category. Her other film work includes Shadow Dancer (2012), which earned her an IFTA for her role as Ma, and the television drama Ghostwatch (1992), which made her well known. On television she also appeared in Cracker: Brotherly Love, South Riding, and The Escape Artist. She was nominated for Olivier Awards for The Ferryman, The Little Foxes, and Rutherford and Son.
