Geoffrey Bayldon
Biography
Geoffrey Bayldon was an English actor who built a substantial stage career in the West End and with the RSC before becoming known for the title role in the children's series Catweazle from 1969 to 1970. Born in Leeds, he trained at the Old Vic theater school. His other long-running television parts included the Crowman in Worzel Gummidge from 1979 to 1981 and Magic Grandad in Watch in 1995. On film he appeared in To Sir, with Love (1967), King Rat (1965), The Pink Panther Strikes Again (1976) and Porridge (1979), and in horror titles for Hammer and Amicus including Dracula, Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed, The House That Dripped Blood and Asylum. He also appeared in Ladies in Lavender (2004), guested in Doctor Who, and provided vocals on Paul Hardcastle's The Wizard.

In 1963, Bayldon was among the first actors approached to play the Doctor. He later portrayed an alternative First Doctor in two Big Finish audio plays, Auld Mortality and A Storm of Angels.
