Plot summary
Gerald Arthur Otley, known as Gerry, is a charming but feckless young drifter in 1960s London who gets by as a petty crook, selling antiques. When he is mistaken for a murderer and for a secret agent, his life without responsibility takes a serious turn. He is kidnapped and detained several times, caught up in murder, espionage and quadruple crossing. Imogen, a foreign agent employed by British Intelligence, becomes his romantic partner.
