Plot summary
Krasnevin is a KGB assassin who has slipped into London society and into British Intelligence itself, living there as the wealthy businessman Alexander Eberlin. After British agents are killed while closing in on Krasnevin, the service's chief, Fraser, orders Eberlin to eliminate the man, seemingly unaware that the two are one. Eberlin is paired for the job with Gatiss, a fellow agent who has never liked him and questions where his loyalties lie. Together they travel to West Berlin to seize Henderson, a second double agent now thought to be Krasnevin; Eberlin's lover, the photographer Caroline Hetherington, comes with them.
