Plot summary
Lincoln County, New Mexico Territory, 1879, in the middle of the land wars. Minniger, a gunslinger who rides for Major Harper, leads a party of Harper's men to arrest the rancher Alexander Kain and his partner Jameson, an Englishman. William Bonney, known as Billy the Kid, shoots and wounds several of the riders and drives them off. Jameson gives him work on the ranch. Then a drunken band of Harper's men attacks the place and Jameson is killed. Billy vows revenge against Harper's men. Kain, the employer who has taken him on, urges him against that faction while condemning the violence in public.
