Carol Lynley
Biography
Carol Lynley was an American actress who moved from child modeling into a career on stage and screen. Born Carole Ann Jones in Manhattan, she studied dance as a child and won a Theatre World Award for her work in The Potting Shed, which helped her land a contract with 20th Century Fox. She received two Golden Globe nominations for Most Promising Newcomer, for The Light in the Forest and Blue Denim (1959). Her films included Return to Peyton Place (1961), The Cardinal (1963), Under the Yum Yum Tree (1963), Bunny Lake Is Missing (1965), The Night Stalker (1972) and The Poseidon Adventure (1972), the last of which ranked among the year's top-grossing films; in it she lip-synced The Morning After. She appeared often on television, in series such as Kojak and Charlie's Angels, and kept working in smaller films and direct-to-video releases.

About the name
Lynley started out as a child model named Carolyn Lee. After she took up acting, she learned that another child actress had already registered that name with the Actors' Equity Association, so she blended the last syllable of Carolyn with Lee to form Lynley.
Beyond film
In The Poseidon Adventure, Lynley lip-synced the Oscar-winning song "The Morning After." Studio singer Renee Armand provided the voice heard in place of Lynley's own singing.
