Plot summary
Brendan O'Malley crosses into Mexico to escape a murder charge, and Sheriff Dana Stribling follows him. O'Malley goes to the ranch of Belle Breckenridge, a woman he once loved, and he means to win her back. He meets her daughter, Melissa. The next day Belle's husband, John Breckenridge, arrives, hires O'Malley to drive the herd to Crazy Horse, Texas, and agrees to pay him a fifth of the cattle. O'Malley says that when the drive ends he will take Belle with him, and Breckenridge does not take the threat seriously. Stribling reaches the ranch with a warrant for the murder but holds no authority in Mexico, so he joins the drive and promises to hand O'Malley over to the law once they reach Texas.
